The Super Kindergarteners are ready for First Grade!  We had a wonderful, fun-filled week thanks to the PTO.  They sponsored the Jim Gill concert on Tuesday and worked very hard on the Picnic on Friday.  The rain did not spoil any fun.  From ring toss, jump rope, face painting, and the ever popular tatoo table, the students had a great time.

This week we did review all the skills we worked on throughout the school year.  Please keep up with review of letters, sounds, and popcorn words so students are fluent.  Review random numbers, practice writing them, and use them in everyday life.  This week we read stories and made number sentences about the story.  READ, READ, READ.  ENJOY AND GOOD LUCK IN FUTURE YEARS!

Thursday, May 24th is our much anticipated Zoo Trip.  Right now the weather is expected to be VERY hot. Fortunately there are many shady places. Please have your students dress approriately with a hat and comfotable walking shoes. Be sure to send a lunch in a brown paper bag marked with your child's name. PM students are allowed to ride the bus to school.  Here's to NO RAIN.

The Kindergarten Graduation is on Monday, June 4th.  The AM  is 10:00 AM.  The PM is 2:00.  Students should take the regular bus to school on that day.  Students will be dismissed to his/her parents after the ceremony.  There is no school for kindergarten on Tuesday, May 5th.

BE was the last popcorn word of the year.  PLEASE keep practicing over the summer for an easy transition into first grade.  UG and UMP were the word family endings.  We read several silly books.  Ask about the favorite.

We are working on the last chapter in math, subtraction.  Students have talked through, modeled with cubes, and written -, = signs.  We will be finishing up this week.

The alphabet countdown continued with lion day, music day, and neatness day.  Ask about it.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!  I am so feeling the LOVE.  You helped make this the best Teacher Appreciation Week EVER.  The cards, (I never considered myself zippy, but will now:) the pictures, the flowers, the candy, (I shared with my family:) the fabulous lunches everyday. It was wonderful.  I can't thank you enough.

The Bubble Guy inspired us to believe that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.  He showed us how he persisted to make a white square bubble.  Be sure to ask some of the other tricks he performed.

Our big book this week was Feathers For Lunch by Lois Ehlert.  We also listened to several versions  of the Three Little Pigs.  HE was the popcorn word.  OKE and OAT were the word family endings.  Please keep reviewing letter identification, sounds, and the popcorn words.  The students' skills are so new and need to be practiced to become automatic.
In math we worked on addition patterns, and modeling, and writing addition sentences using cubes and play-doh.  We have been practicing combining numbers to make groups of ten.  Next week we start subtraction.

All checked out library books to be returned by May 21st.

Our buses for the zoo field trip are full.  I have three names on the substitute volunteer list.
